29th January 2013 – Death of Edward Lear (1888)

Celebration: Death of Edward Lear (1888)

Mission: Read “The Owl & the Pussycat” to Roo

Status: Complete

Notes: This is the first celebration so far this year in which I had completed the mission before seven o’clock in the morning. Edward Lear was born in 12th May 1812, and died on this day in 1888. I found his 1867 poem “The Owl and the Pussycat” on the internet on my (now fixed) comlink when Reuben had requested I get up & entertain him at six thirty this morning. This we did in the den under his bed.

If this picture looks slightly blurry, that’s probably because it’s six thirty in the morning and everything is a little blurry that early.

After I read it, Reuben wanted to hear it again. After I read it again, he wanted me to not read it again, but to squiggle some twinkles.

This evening, at his bedtime, we read it again just to make sure. He said he liked it and that there was an owl baby in the nest at nursery today. And then we read Owl Babies by Martin Waddell & Patrick Benson.
