10th May 2013 – Churchill Appointed as Prime Minister (1940)

Celebration: Churchill Appointed as Prime Minister (1940)

Mission: Visit the Churchill War Rooms

Status: Failed

Notes: Sir Winston Churchill was appointed Prime Minister of the UK on this day in 1940, following the resignation of Neville Chamberlain. Churchill was serving as First Lord of the Admiralty, a position he had previously held during the Great War and had reprised since the outbreak of World War II. He was appointed to the position of Prime Minister by King George VI on Chamberlain’s recommendation.

Sadly I didn’t make the trip to his War Rooms in Whitehall… I didn’t even watch Dr Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.

Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here – this is the War Room!
