13th April 2013 – Songkran (Thailand)

Celebration: Songkran (Thailand)

Mission: Throw a bucket of water over someone

Status: Complete

Notes: Songkran is essentially Thai New Year and based on the sun moving into Aries which typically occurs on 13th-14th April, although from 1888 Thailand had their official new year on 1st April, and then since 1940 they moved it again to 1st January to be aligned with Pope Gregory’s calendar that seemed so popular in Europe. Throwing water over people is a big theme of Songkran – representing the washing away of the old and is a good way of keeping cool at the hottest point of Thailand’s year.

Our baby had some pizza for tea, and smushed it into the back of her head. If ever anyone needed a good washing…
